So I Did Something Stupid...

Gotta love the comically large thumb there.
Six days ago, my last day in Nashville, I was in a bit of a blind rush. I needed to get everything in my room packed up, get ready for my day, get ready to leave Nashville, and get to my friend's competition by 9am. All was going well at 8:30am, until I reached for my curling iron. Normally, that action wouldn't be anything to write about, but, I didn't grab my curling iron in the 'non-interesting' way. I grabbed my curling iron on the hot end (obviously I wasn't looking). The hot end that was set at 450°. Yeah big a** whoops there!
Some of my burned skin, six days later. It looks a bit freakish.
So you all can imagine the scream, the tears, the running mascara, the tremendous pain, and the panic that came with all of that (and the amount of one handed last minute packing that I had no choice but to do). Fortunately, I had the state of mind to grab the aloe Lidocaine burn spray can and spray it all over my burned hand. I was also fortunate to be able to see my teacher's mother, an ER doctor who gave me great advice, and a medic was on staff at the resort hotel with the oh so miraculous silvadeen which he generously slathered all over the burn on my palm and the multiple burns on my fingers. I also had some anti-biotic ointment with numbing analgesics in it to keep the pain at bay (for the most part) during the 10 hour ride home. I have been pretty uncomfortable since that whole ordeal, but, thanks to some clarity of mind and better living through chemistry the moment it happened, things could have been a lot worse. I've had blisters, swelling, and the freakish loss of the lines on my thumbprint (the thumb got the worse of it) and on my fingers. But, I am healing and should be right as rain soon enough.

Just remember, it could always be worse! ;-)

Feis Prep Time

Alrighty, so it's been a few days and I do apologize for that! I've been a busy bee as this Saturday is my first Irish dance competition or Feis. Cuhrazy-ness! Of course, I have to share with you all what to-do and not to do, when preparing for a Feis.
Learn from my mistakes!
-
First part of my preparations has involved a lot personal care. Particularly for my shins. I am on strict regimine of ice packs and epsom salt baths as I am beginning to get shin splints! Blah! This is what I get for not stretching nearly enough (ie barely at all) after I have danced. Bad Megan. Moral of the story before a Feis, or heck just to not have to deal with swollen and painful calves, stretch lots and take care of your body!
-
To recap: Do- Stretch lots, attend to pain right away.
-
Don't- Think you're too tired and not stretch after class.

The more you know!

Do You Know What a Psoas Muscle Is?

Sorry for the anatomy lesson there, I had a hard time finding a bigger pic- but the Psoas major is what I'm talking about.

So adding to my list of 'how did you get that?' bizarre-like injuries I can now add a strained psoas muscle. It's not a major ordeal, for the most part. I'm uncomfortable at the worst. It's difficult to sit for long periods of time, can't really workout, those kind of things. At least laying on the couch, ice packs, and a whole lotta nothing does a world of good!

How did I do this? I'll spare you all the nitty-gritty details, as there are none. I simply thought I could lift Louie up on the porch when he got interested in sniffing something in the front flower bed. Little did I think (well I didn't think at all really) about how much Louie could weigh at this point and how it may not be wise to test how well I could withstand hoisting a dog who easily weighs half if not more than half of my weight. Yes, I do have serious blond moments now and then.

You may now laugh at me and roll your eyes.

Gimp

In a frantic sprint to get a gas container out of my car so my best bed Sarah could take me to get gas (I ran out, but, made it to where I was going!) I slipped out of three inch slingbacks and rolled my ankle. It hurt like hell, but, I didn't want to make a scene. Well, after a day of being in heels yesterday, tons of pain, my foot nearly twice its normal size, and some discoleration today I went in for x-rays at Urgent Care. Good news is no fracture meaning I'm not stuck in a cast or boot for a set period of time. Bad news is it's a bad sprain and as it is my third sprain, recovery is going to take time. Gotta fix these weak ankles! This is getting old!!
