Hot Tamale

I usually don't like complaining about the weather. The weather is completely out of my personal control and I figure the more I get upset about it the worse it'll make things. Well, screw that for today! Yesterday I got heat exhaustion from, get this, just driving around in my non airconditioned car on and off from 8am-3pm. Are you kidding me? Of course, did my years of being in marching band how-to-keep-from-getting-heat-sick know how kick in? Nope! I went to dance practice in the evening around 6pm. Did something occur to me then when my body hurt from minimal dancing, I couldn't think, nor stop sweating even on break?? Oh no, no! I came home, ate dinner, and thought my heat rashed legs needed an oatmeal bath. Two minutes into said bath did I feel as if I was going to pass out. Light bulb on!

Okay my dumb moment aside the weather has been miserably hot lately. The heat index around here has been hanging out in the 110-115 degree range for a few days now. Mmmm...swealtering. I am really lucky to have airconditioning in the home though and hey at least I have a car right? However, if someone, something that does have personal control of the weather would turn that temp control knob down that would be uber, uber appreciated.

If it helps, I told the chickens tonight that they needed to perform rain dances tonight so we could catch a break. :D Lots of water and rest, babe! Take care!

Yep girl, it seems after horrible winters, we're all in for sweltering summers! But I am doing everything in my power to remember the snow and sleet and enjoy every second of it. But why oh why is there no AC in France???

Sounds like you got a bit of heat stroke at dancing class. Are you drinking lots of water?
Try to keep cool.

Make like a reptile and stay in the shade and AC all day, nap, and come out at night.

That's how they do it in Mexico, Africa, and India and all those other hot places.

I remember those hot OK days and nights like it was yesterday.

Where's my glass of iced tea?

Sarah- Girl get those chickens dancing!! At this point anything is worth a try. We've had excesive heat warnings for how many days in a row now? Blech.

Sara Louise- Oh girl I don't know how you're managing! I've heard that the general French thought is to not make the house so cold in comparison to the outdoors- it's bad for your health. Or at least I thought that's what I read once. Hang in there and I'll be praying, dancing, sacrificing, whatever so you can get that Mistral wind soon! Hang in there!

Dedene- I was pretty close I think. Even the morning after I realized it I was still on the warm side. My head literally felt like it was melting for over half a day. I have been drinking TONS of water, under the fans, and staying indoors at all times. Jon even let me borrow his car that has a/c yesterday! Today I'm much better thank goodness!

Pliers- Amen! These bloody hot days are hard to purge from your memory banks unless you were to repress all memories of your days here! I am staying indoors and only going out when absolutely neccessary. Today I am so much better! Going to keep hydrated and far more aware of how I'm feeling now.

Put some ice on your wrists and behind your neck, put your feet up (if you're not driving, of course...) and start taking some magnesium, girl! This coming from an overheat survivor! :-) Hope you start feeling better soon - and it's still better than rain...right?

Habebi said...

Lovely- You too?! Overheating is no, no bueno. I haven't heart of the feet up bit, but, that makes sense. Thanks! That is being filed away in my brain. Oh and you were spot on about my magnisium (elyctrolytes in general). They were way too low I think. Pedialyte helped a lot, but, it took much longer than if I was just a bit dehydrated. Blech.

And you know rain, if it meant cooler temps, wouldn't be so bad right now. Oy, it's hot!

It's major hot around these parts too. Every afternoon I have three dogs, melting into yellow and black puddles under the shade of the tree. Let me tell you, they LOVE the water hose. And so do I! It's like being a kid again.

Caitie- Sounds like FUN! Well, the water hose part not the melting part. Hang in there!
